The City of Palma
Sheltered in Palma Bay with a superb beach next to a warm and turquoise sea, Palma de Mallorca is the perfect holiday destination. The capital of the Balearic Islands, with around 300 days of sunshine a year, has a vibrant and cosmopolitan lifestyle and is, by far, the biggest town in Mallorca.
As a commercial city, you'll find several shopping centres in Palma, a maze of narrow lanes and restored buildings surrounded by ruined ancient city walls, and modern boulevards. In fact, the most important street in Palma, "el Passeig des Born", is a commercial street with bars, shops and restaurants. This busy street serves as a meeting place for the locals as well. Also, Palma offers an extensive public transport system, with bus services linking the capital to all of Mallorca's principal cities and neighborhoods.
Although the City of Palma is the commercial and cultural centre of Majorca, the quantity of history, culture and nightlife here often takes visitors by surprise. The most important attractions in Palma include theGothic cathedral of Mallorca, the Majorca baths of Moorish origin, the Almudaina Palace, the Gothic Bellver Castle and the exquisite Sa Llotja. Close to the Cathedral is the old Arab quarter, its maze of narrow streets hiding museums, palaces and exquisite courtyards.
