Arriving to PalmaAs an island, Mallorca is accessible by air and by ferry services from the mainland and Ibiza. Flying is a much quicker and more convenient option, while ferry travel is appropriate for those wishing to take their own vehicles with them. By Plane Palma de Mallorca Airport, "Son Sant Joan" (Phone +34 971 789 099), is located just 8kms east of the city of the capital and, serving some 20 million passengers annually,is the 3rd busiest Airport in Spain. There are daily direct flights to and from all European capitals and main cities. There are daily scheduled domestic flights to Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia,Alicante and other cities around Spain. In the same wa, there are flights between Mallorca and North, Central and South America via Madrid and Barcelona. This airport is well equipped with modern passenger amenities (a bank, ATMs and bureau de change). Information desks can be found easily in the Arrivals, Departures and Check-in areas. At the airport, there is a permanent taxi service as well as a number of car-rental agencies. There are a few bus lines that leave the airport for the city centre (Plazade España) every 15 minutes, and from here, you can take buses to other points and towns on the island. By Ferry Palma de Mallorca can be reached by ferry from the other Balearic Islands and from Spain’s mainland; mainly from Valencia and Barcelona. Barcelona is the nearer if you are coming via France. There are three ferry operators sailing to Palma: Trasmediterranea, Iscomar or Balearia Ferries. The Trasmediterránea Ferry Line covers the Palma-Barcelona, Palma-Valencia, Palma-Ibiza and Palma-Menorca routes (daily roundtrips). The ships are very comfortable. The Flebasa Line covers the Palma-Ibiza-Denia (Alicante) and Palma-Vilanova (Barcelona) routes. There's a new rapid ferry service that links Palma with the mainland in 4 hours. The price one-way for one person & one car will be around 150 € with either company. Some lines are designed for foot passengers only while other lines allow to transport vehicles. By Car Due to the fact that Mallorca is an island, you can't arrive here directly by car. However it's possible to transport your vehicle in a ferry. The best option if you need a car to move around inMallorca is, without doubt, to rent a vehicle. This is a convenient and comfortable way of getting around the city and its surroundings. |
