Opposite the west doorway of the cathedral is the Palacio de la Almudaina, which was once the residence of the Moorish viziers and, during the short-lived reign of the kings of Majorca, was converted at the beginning of the 14th century into a royal residence on the orders of kings Jaume II. This ancient citadel had a solid outer wall that sheltered a rectangular building complete with five towers.
Today, the Almudaina Palace is occupied by the Museo Nacional (National Museum). Also it houses the Harbor Office (called "Capitania General") of the Balearic Islands. In the courtyard is the Gothic Capilla de Santa Ana. From here you can see excellent panoramic views of Palma's harbor.

The Llotja (or La Lonja, its Spanish name) is the city's former stock exchange. This 15th-century Gothic structure is a leftover from the wealthy mercantile days of Majorca. This is one of the most distinguished Majorcan work of the fifteenth century, done by the sculptor and architect Guillermo Sagrera.
You will see in one of its doorways the figure of an archangel, revealing an extraordinary mastery of technique. In the same way, the exterior of the building shows some amazingly executed gargoyles. This building, with its octagonal turrets and tall windows, now hosts frequent and often excellent exhibitions that are announced in local newspapers.
