City of Málaga

With its Moorish architecture, wonderful climate and beautiful beaches, Málaga is now one of Spain’s most popular coastal destinations. The beaches along the Costa del Sol ("Sun Coast") are visited by millions of European tourists. But besides the beaches, the mountainous province has some very interesting places to visit, like the gorge of ElChorro or the Torcal in Antequera. Málaga is steeped in ancient history and culture and offers plenty for visitors to see and to do such as the Gibralfaro Castle, the Alcazaba and the Archeological Museum. In fact, Málaga was first a Phoenician colony and later came under the control of the Greeks, Carthaginians, Visigoths, Arabs and Christians.

The city of Málaga is located near Sevilla and Granada and the strategically good position in the Mediterranean Sea makes it easy accessible from the Sea.Málaga, which is the second most important city in Andalucia, has an active fishing port and is the capital of the 'Costa de Sol'. The inner city of Málaga is just behind the harbour. The quarters of El Perchel, La Trinidad and Lagunillas surround this centre. Malagueños, the people from Málaga, are very friendly.

Málaga is a city steeped in more than 3,000 years of history. Málaga’s cathedral is known as La Manquita, meaning “the little one armed lady”. Close to Málaga cathedral is the Alcazaba, which is a fifteenth century Moorish fort and is one of the most important in the area. Since the opening of the Picasso Museum in 2003, cultural tourists have been flocking to this and the now beautifully refurbished birthplace of thisexcelent artist.
