Palacio Real de El Pardo is a Spanish royal palace near Madrid and is on the site where once stood the Alcazar of Madrid, the "famous castle" built at the end of the 9th century, during the reign of Mohammed I, Emir of Cordoba. El Pardo palace began life as a royal hunting lodge. It later became General Franco's official residence after the Spanish Civil War, and today is a museum administered by the Patrimonio Nacional agency and accommodation for visiting foreign leaders and heads of state.
Originally built in the 15th C., the palace was later destroyed and rebuilt. Its great collection of paintings, textiles, antique furniture, and porcelain is open to the public. The "Palacio Real" features tapestries, frescos and important pieces of art, such as the tapestries, the frescos by Gaspar Becerra and an extensive collection of Neoclassic furniture. The Throne Room is enclosed by a magnificent cupola decorated by Tiépolo.
The Pardo is easy to find, You can reach this palace just taking the public bus (El Pardo-Mingorrubio) from Moncloa (every fifteen minutes until midnight from the bus terminal at Metro Moncloa), or by any city taxi.
