Cañas y Tapas Hours
Generally, tapas or snacks can be had with a drink in most bars and cafes, a good way to sample a large variety of tastes in a short time. "Ir de tapeo" (going out for tapas) is a tradition in all Spain. Hundreds of bars scattered throughout the streets of Madrid serve a tapa accompanied by a small glass of wine or beer.
A supper in a restaurant usually begins at 9:30pm, finishing usually at midnight or even later. Many restaurants, however, start serving dinner at 8pm to accommodate visitors from other countries who don't like to dine so late. Many restaurants close on Sundays and/or Mondays and for all or part of July and August. The hours for having "cañas" (drinks) and "tapas" (snacks) are from around noon to 2pm, and 8pm to 10pm, though most bars will do you a snack at any hour of the day, and they generally stay open till midnight or beyond.
