Restaurant prices in Madrid

Eating out in Madrid is less expensive than in most European capitals, and the very sensible tradition of the fixed-price lunch menu, the menú del día , means that it’s possible to try out some of the city’s best restaurants for a reasonable price. The menú del día (menu of the day) or cubierto (fixed price) are both fixed-price menus and they're based on what is fresh at the market that day. The menú turístico is also a fixed-price menu, but for many it's too large, especially at lunch. Only those with big appetites will enjoy this food.

Talking about prices, most restaurants are pleasant places with an excellent kitchen where you can already have a menu for about €8.- to €12. However, restaurants in Madrid are categorized by the average cost of one entree, an appetizer, and glass of wine. Very Expensive, a meal averages $50 per person and up; Expensive, $30 to $50; Moderate, $20 to $30; and Inexpensive, under $20. Theoretically, service is included in the price of the meal, but it's customary to leave an additional 10%.

Drinks in Madrid vary its costs from place to place depending on location, quality, and popularity but generally speaking, all drinks from soft drinks to beer and wine are very affordable. Dinner expenses might either be going for tapas (little dishes of food) at a bar for 7-10 € each or a sit-down meal at a restaurant for 15-30 € each.
