Jaen has several fascinating and ancient churches, such as: The Convent of Santo Domingo, the Convent of Las Bernardas, La Santa Capilla de San Andres, the Churches of San Bartolomé and San Juan, the Church of La Magdalena and the Church of San Ildefonso, and so on.
Cathedral

The Cathedral of Jaén, one of the most important Renaissance style cathedrals. It was begun in 1500 on the site of a former mosque and not finished until the end of the 18th century. Due to the fact that this cathedral was built in many years, it has different artistic styles, being the most prominent Renaissance, beingAndrés de Vandelvira the most important architect. In fact, its chief architect was the brilliant Andres de Vandelvira, many more of whose buildings can be seen in Ubeda and Baeza. The Cathedral of Jaén constitutes the most beautiful exponent of the Andalusian renaissance. It aspires to be listed as World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
Arab Baths

The Arab Baths are the most significant remnants of the Moorish era of Andalusia. Located in the narrow alleyways of the old part of the town as you walk from the cathedral, the baths once belonged to Ali, a Moorish king of Jaen and probably from the 11th century. The Arabic Baths in Jaén are the biggest Arabic Baths preserved in Spain. They can be visited under Villardompardo's Palace (another important monument in the city).The palace itself contains a museum of art and folk traditions.
Real Monasterio de Santa Clara
Plaza de San Agustín - Jaén
Near the Plaza de los Caños to the north of the cathedral, stands the 13th century Monasterio de Santa Clara, which is the oldest monastery in Jaen. The church contains an unusual 16C statue of Christ made out of bamboo, perhaps attributable to the Quito school.
Old University
C/ Barbacana - Baeza
The city has the University of Jaen, which nowadays consists of approximately 15.000 pupils and 25 degrees. Founded in the 16C by Rodrigo Lopez and Juande Avila. The university became a secondary education establishment in 1875. Near the Jaen gate, you will go through the Barbudo arch, the only remains of the fortified walls.
Capilla de San Andrés
Farther east from the Arab baths is the Capilla de San Andrés, founded in 1515 by Gutiérrez González Doncel, treasurer to Popes Leo X and Clement VII. This chapel was founded in XVth century by Gutiérrez González Doncel. This church was declared Historic Monument in 1931.
