Ibiza Nighlife

One of the wildest islands on Earth, Ibiza is a place where daytime beach activities are only a prelude to an all-night party that often lasts clear through to the next beach day. Ibiza boasts some of the biggest and best night clubs in the world attracting all kind of people. From June until the end of October, in tourist season, Ibiza's nightlife is at its best but there are lots of bars where you can have a drink and talk, without loud music. But if you visit the island between October and May, you'll find a very different island. Ibiza becomes much more peaceful; only one club and a few funky bars remain open through the winter months.

Ibiza has a hedonistic heritage stretching back more than 30 years. In fact, this island was first inhabited in the 60s as a hangout for hippies; and today, Ibiza maintains its counterculture personality, though in a thoroughly modern way. A lot of young people, mainly Europeans, frequent Ibiza for the nocturnal nightlife. In Ibiza are located some of the world's most famous clubs.

There are two main nightlife districts in the island: Ibiza town on the east coast and San Antonio on the west coast. In fact, the nightlife districts, aside from the clubs, are mainly in Puerto de Ibiza, known as 'La Marina', where you find many terraces and restaurants, and the decidedly British orientated club capital of San Antonio, which is full of the liveliest bars.

However Ibiza is pretty expensive and those on a budget be warned. Plan on spending US$35-65 per club just to get inside. Top clubs, on form DJs, hot bands, a cosmopolitan mix of clubbers, local residents, freaks, mature partygoers, fresh faces, a wide range of sexualities, and the full alphabet of celebrities. AS you can see, modern Ibiza contains multitudes. In the same way, musically there's a wider choice now than ever before: overground, underground, rock, house, hip hop, techno, electro, r'n'b and, of course, the ethereal soundscapes of chill.

Before you head for the clubs, pop along to the famous Café del Mar at San Antonio, or one of the many neighbouring bars, to savour an awe-inspiring sunset. Also make use of the disco buses which will transport you to almost any of the clubs on the island. Taxis are cheap, especially if there's a group of you. Keep in mind, also, that usually, the most famous club is often the last one visited during a night. Nearly every die-hard partier has fantasized over video of the foam party. The event is called 'Espuma' - which is Spanish for foam party. The foam can reach as high as six feet and patrons do get drenched.
