Gay & Lesbian in Ibiza
Ibiza has long been recognised as a leading gay destination, due to its famously liberal reputation. Since 1960, Ibiza has gradually become one of the top gay destinations in Europe and today, there are plenty of gay bars, restaurants and beaches.
Ibiza's gay scene is long established with a real community feel. You'll find here several gay beaches, clubs and more. Of course, the hub of the scene on Ibiza is Ibiza Town, with the majority of venues located in theportside Sa Penya area (specifically Carrer de la Verge), and even within the walls of Dalt Vila. While San Antonio tends to attract a more heterosexual crowd, the largely straight clubs of the island are becoming more attuned to the consumer power of Ibiza's gay visitors.
Playa des Cavallett (south of the airport in Ibiza) and Playa de las Salinas are both popular gay haunts and Playa des Cavallett is also an official naturist beach. Es Cavallet, as mentioned is certainly the best gay beach on Ibiza, and probably one of the best in Europe. Playa des Cavallet. Chiringay, on the nudist beach of Es Cavallet, is health heaven, offering its customers massages and a range of healthy smoothies and juices, in stunning surroundings and against a backdrop of chilled out beats.
There are many gay discos and bars in Ibiza. Amnesia, for instance, the bastion of foam parties, plays host to the weekly La Troya Asesina night, which started in the late 1990s and draws in a mainly gay crowd. Ibiza's gay club, Anfora (Carrer Sant Carles, within Dalt Vila), has a capacity of only 500 and is open between May and October. Although it is true that Ibiza attracts more gay men than gay women, there is one particular lesbian-run bar that is a must: Monroe's onCarrer Ramón Mutaner, in Figueretes.
