This museum is located in the Palace of the Duques del Infantado and it's one of the most ancient and amazing jewels of the Spanish Art. Built in the of 15th century under the direction of the royal architect Juan Guas, it was promoted by the second Duke of Infantado, Íñigo López de Mendoza. This building was a residence for dukes during several centuries. When, during the 19th century, the Duke of Osuna sold it to the Army, was installed in it "El Colegio de Huérfanas" (Orphans School) which was finally destroyed during the civil war of 1936-39. Later, in 1960, this museum was rebuilt completely, installing in it the "Archivo Histórico Provincial", "La Biblioteca Pública" and this "Museo Provincial de Guadalajara". Its historic and art items are organised in three sections: Fine Arts, Ethnography and Archaeology. Its collection includes fifty paintings from the Hispanic-Flemish school, as well as the sepulchre of Doña Aldonza de Mendoza (15th century) and canvases by such artists as Alonso Cano, Carreño de Miranda and Alonso del Arco.
