The fame and prestige of Catolonian restaurants is extended by all Spain and, of course, in Gerona. Many of Spain's finest modern chefs (including Ferran Adria) have been trained in Catalan schools and restaurants, and many new exciting and unique dishes have been created in one a Catalonian or Costa Brava restaurant. One characteristic of the cuisine here is the mixture of good country cooking with dishes that you usually find on the coast, such as chicken with lobster. The fish and seafood dishes are excellent (you must eat a dish called "gamba roja de Palamós"). Steak, lamb, duck and chicken are also recommended. The wild mushrooms and different cheeses from this province shouldn´t be missed.

If you are around Girona there are plenty of good restaurants; being the best of them "El Bulli" and "Celler de Can Roca". Below there is a list with some excelent restaurants in Girona:

This restaurant is located in the oldest part of Girona, near the Plaza de Cataluña. Menu items include savory escudilla, made with veal, pork, and local herbs and vegetables; tender fried fillets of veal with mushrooms; and flaky homemade pastries, some of them flavored with anise-flavored cream.

El Bulli, one of the world's most famous restaurant lies proudly on the Costa Brava, just 6 km from Roses, and is visited by thousands of gourmets each year. El Bulli, which means "innovative" in Spanish, lives up to its name. Most guests order a 12-course tasting menu finer than any you'll be served in Barcelona's top restaurants.

El séller de Can Roca is the best of the new spate of restaurants appearing in Girona and represents the success of the campaign to transform Girona into one of the more fashionable cities in Spain. This restaurant offers creative Mediterranean cuisine and is located just 2km (1 1/4 miles) from the center of Girona.
