The Comunity of Madrid has 179 municipalities. Some of the most important towns are: Alcalá de Henares, Coslada, Torrejón de Ardoz, Getafe, Móstoles, San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Navalcarnero and Aranjuez. Almost a half of the population live in Madrid capital.

In the outskirts of Madrid you'll find several places such as parks, woods and so on. One of those parks is el Retiro. This oasis of tranquility has been carefully cultivated with a variety of plants. This is the place where many Madrileños spent their weekends. There are also a number of activities within the park as well.

Casa de Campo is, nowadays, a large reserve in which you can get a taste of rural Spain without having to leave the city. This old hunting park is 5 times the size of New York City's Central Park. This park is considered the lungs of Madrid and one of the preferred destinations for "madrileños". This park has also a railway which was open since 1969. The "Teleférico" connects Madrid city centre to Casa de Campo in around 11 minutes. The Teleférico is like a Gondola-style car that rides high above Madrid.
