Madrid is one of Europe's largest cities, located at the very center of the Iberian Peninsula. This is a cosmopolitan city, a business center, headquarters for the Public Administration, Government, Spanish Parliament and the home of the Spanish Royal Family. Madrid is modern, active city offering innumerable attractions to the visitor.

In the center of the city you’ll find the historic Plaza Mayor, considered to be one of the finest in Spain, and is surrounded by 17th-century architecture. Also, the Royal Palace, surrounded by gardens that are now partially open to the public, is a magnificent example of 18th century art.

Madrid is characterized by intense cultural and artistic activity and a very lively nightlife. Including the Royal Palace, it has 15 important museums, dozens of galleries and several private collections. The three famous museums in Madrid are: the Prado, the Reina Sofia and the Thyssen Bornemisza museum.

There are many places to know around Madrid, some of which are:

Opera: As the name implies, Madrid's main Opera Theatre is the Teatro Real (Royal theatre). In front of the theatre is the Royal Palace.
Alonso Martínez: This district contains the large Plaza de Colón. This plaza commemorates Christopher Columbus.
Atocha: Atocha includes a rather large area which is bordered by the Huertas and Lavapiés districts. The two important sites located in this area are the Reina Sofía Museum and the Atocha Railway Station (which was the main object of the terrorist attacks carried out on March 11, 2004).
AZCA / Nuevos Ministerios: Azca is the financial district. The area is populated by skyscrapers, among them Torre Picasso 157 m, Edificio BBVA 86 m and Torre Europa 115 m.
Las Cortes: This district is small in size. The most important sites include Spanish parliament buildings of the lower house Congreso de los Diputados.
Another beautiful places to know are: Huertas, Gran Vía, Lavapiés, La Latina, Malasaña, Retiro, Hortaleza, Vallecas, Aravaca and so on.
