Travellers' cheques and credit cards
Although it's possible to echange Travellers' cheques in banks and (possibly) some of the larger hotels, is more recommendable to carry credit cards and ATM cards, because they are more widely accepted. Anyway, to avoid additional exchange rate charges, travellers are advised to take travellers cheques in Euros, Pounds Sterling or US Dollars.
Credit cards are universally accepted in hotels, restaurants, gas/petrol stations, etc. In fact, all major credit cards are accepted by many businesses. MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and Visa are widely accepted, as well as Eurocheque cards. Keep in mind, however, that American Express and Diners Club are less common than Visa and Mastercard. Smaller restaurants and bars generally only accept cash.
If you have a debit cards that is connected to a credit card company such as Mastercard or Visa you can withdraw money and pay for goods where these cards are accepted. A bank debit card will normally give you better exchange rates than a credit card, but please check with your bank first. Also, for your daily necessities, remember that you'll need cash and small change.
