Rest of townThere's much more to see and visit in Cordoba than the Mezquita or the ruins of Medina Azahara. Cordoba in an ancient and historical city so history is present in every church, palace or neighborhood in Cordoba. Some of the most important places are - among others - the "Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos", the Roman Bridge, the Jewish Quarter and museums like Julio Romero Museum and the Fine Art Museum. The Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos (Alcázar of Córdoba) It's a medieval Alcázar located in Córdoba, Spain next to the Guadalquivir River and near the Mezquita. Also especially outstanding are the patios and gardens of the Alcázar. One is called the Patio Morisco in the Mudéjar style and the other has many pools and fountains spouting water. Roman Bridge. The Roman Bridge (Puente Romano) leads into the city of Córdoba. Córdoba flourished under the ancient Romans at a highly strategic port site on the Guadalquivir River. The Roman bridge which, according to the Arab geographer, Al-drisi 'surpasses all other bridges in beauty and solidity' yet reflects little of its Roman roots, owing to frequent reconstruction over many decades. In the centre of the east stone hand rails there is an little shrine to St Raphael at whose feet the devout burn candles. The Jewish Quarter The Jewish Quarter is the best-known part of Cordoba's historic centre, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984. It was always an important cultural and intellectual center. Monuments remind to the most important sons of Cordoba: Roman philosopher Séneca, Arabian philosopher Averroes and Jewish philosopher Maimonides. You will find beautiful monuments at the Jewish Quarter, such as the Synagogue, which is at the centre of the quarter in Calle de los Judios; and "La puerta de Almodóvar", which provides access to the city's Jewish Quarter. The Julio Romero Museum and the Fine Art Museum These museums are located on the building of the ancient "La Caridad" Hospital.
