Barcelona Trains

For a long distance trip but also for shorter rides, the railway is an excellent option: the trains are comfortable, clean, fast, arriving on time. The Spanish railway system (RENFE) runs trains over the whole country. There are different kinds of trains (estrella, Talgo, etc.). Different special discounts are available. For foreigners or Spanish non residents, there are also the tourist card and the Inter Rail ticket.
Barcelona’s suburban train service, the FCG, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, is also a wise travel option with 2 lines in Barcelona and 4 others going to towns close by. The main railway station is at Pl. Catalunya. The metro is probably the swiftest and easiest way to get around inner areas, and suburban trains or buses to get a little further out. Buses service the airport and can get you into town pretty efficiently.
