Barcelona Funiculars & Cable carsThe "Funicular de Montjuīc", operated by the TMB, climbs the Montjuīc, a mountain overlooking Barcelona harbor right at the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. This Telerifico takes you up to the Montjuic Castle and costs 1.50 one way, 2.30 return. The Tibidabo Funicular runs from Pl. Dr. Andreu (at the end of Av. Tibidabo, where it connects with the Tramvia Blau) to Pl. Tibidabo. It was the first funicular in Spain, inaugurated on October 29th, 1901. Tibidabo is the highest point of the Serra de Collserola hills, an extensive woodland area that has been converted into a metropolitan park 500 metres above sea level. The at the top of the funicular is the Temple Expiatori or Church of Atonement, and an Amusement Park. Another of Barcelona's funiculars is reached by a short ride on one of the FGC suburban lines to station "Peu de Funicular" and the funicular is known as the Vallvidrera Funicular. This funicular also climbs the Tibidabo mountain but is mostly used as a "commuter" funicular for local residents. The Vallvidrera Funicular has a connection in its base with the FGC line, which is owner of the funicular.
Barcelona also has two cable cars: one to the Montjuīc castle (operated by TMB) and another that runs via Torre Jaume I and Torre Sant Sebastia over the port. The Montjuīc Cable Car runs from the upper cable-car station on Montjuīc. Cross-harbour cable car runs from Montjuīc hill (Costa i Llobera gardens) to the Sant Sebastiā tower, stopping at the Jaume I tower (next to the World Trade Center). The "Tramvia Blau" (blue tram) was part of the original Barcelona tram system, which continued running after the rest of the system was closed, using the original blue 2-axle trams. It runs from the Plaįa de Kennedy/Avinguda del Tibidabo to the Plaįa del Doctor Andreu and back. The tramway and funicular were both opened in 1901, along with the Tibidabo Amusement Park.
