The enchanting city of Barcelona is a visual delight, and has an atmosphere that combines elegance and sophistication with provincial charm. The "Plaza De Cataluña" marks the centre of the city. Between this square and the sea is the old part of the city, which consists of two neighbourhoods, or “Barrios”; "Barrio Viejo" and "Barrio Gótico". Barcelona's old town, or Ciutat Vella, is the heart of the city. It's made up of many small neighbourhoods, full of old-world character, linked by narrow, winding streets. The Barri Gótic is full of narrow streets where almost all the buildings date from the 13th to 16th centuries and the seaside areas which include Port Vell (the old port) and an entirely new beach front.

Start your tour from Plaça Catalunya and take Les Rambles (or Las Ramblas in Spanish) towards the sea. On the right, you'll find Raval district with its museums, art galleries and notorious red-light area, Barri Xines. On your left, the medieval Barri Gòtic (Gothic Quarter) is home to the cathedral, peaceful Plaça del Pi, art galleries and lots of cafes serving delicious hot chocolate. The famous "Las Ramblas"; a street 2 km long, that starts at the "Plaza de Cataluña" and runs all the way down to the sea; is the best place to experience the spirit of Barcelona.

Barcelona has seven beaches, totalling 4.5 km of coastline. So, if you want to enjoy the sun and a beautiful beach, around Barcelona you have the opportunity to relax on one of the delightful beaches of the "Costa Brava" and "Costa Dorada". In the same way, Sant Sebastià and Barceloneta beaches are both the largest and the most frequented beaches in Barcelona.
