    The city:
  • Population: 1.900.000.
  • Location: North East of Spain.
  • The port of Barcelona is one of the largest in the Mediterranean.
  • Barcelona has an international airport.
  • The historical capital of Catalonia and Spain's second city.

    Cultural / recreational:
  • The city offers a wide variety of art, a lively street life, an extensive nightlife and an international audience.
  • Barcelona was the venue for the Olympic Games in 1992; a visit to the Olympic Village is not to be missed.
  • At the end of September, one of the most important celebrations of the city takes place: the Mercè (patron saint of the city). During this time, there are many rock, pop and folk concerts, street-theatre productions and sporting activities.
  • The city's history is beautifully reflected in the famous Barrio Gótico, the old quarter known as the Gothic Quarter because it is a treasure house of Gothic architecture, and where you can find both historic monuments and modern institutions.
  • Barcelona's location offers easy access to the beaches of the Costa Brava and skiing resorts in the Pyrenees.
  • Nearby are Sitges, Figueres, Empúries, and Girona, all of which are worth a visit.
  • Barcelona is Spain's Mecca for modern art and theatre lovers. You can admire the work of Picasso, Miró and see Gaudi's famous Sagrada Familia, Güell Park and La Pedrera building.

    Critical comment:
  • As Barcelona is located in Catalonia, the official languages spoken are Castilian and Catalan. Catalan is considerably different from Castilian (the official Spanish language). Naturally you will be taught in Castilian and all locals can speak both languages.

The Spanish School in Barcelona

The Spanish in Barcelona school is located in the lively heart of the city, at 27 “Mallorca Street” in the traditional central L’Eixample District, where it is located the famous Gaudi’s “Sagrada Familia” cathedral. On foot, our school is 10 minutes from “Plaza España” and “Plaza de Catalunya”. It is also very near the city’s bustling Gran Via. Besides, Barcelona’s main railway (Sants Railway Station) is only 150 meters away.

The school is spread trough the 3 lower floors of a modern building, occupying 2600 square meters. The school has 55 bright and airy classrooms. In addition to the classrooms, the school offers also several common areas that include a large interior courtyard, a private garden with trees and a terrace. The central interior patio offers comfortable seating as well as more than 20 computer terminals with free internet access; but, if you have your own lap top, you can simply log onto the free Wi-fi network of the school.
