Reasons why you should visit Spain

Spain is one of the world's favourite tourist destinations for a reason. There is so much to be found in Spain that you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. Make sure to get your EHIC card at and tour one of the most beautiful countries in the world. There are so many reasons why you shouldn't pass up the chance to visit:

The food
Spanish cuisine has some of the world's most iconic dishes and flavours. In the coastal cities and towns you will find fresh and delicious seafood while the sunny rural areas enjoy an abundance of fresh vegetables and fruits. Everywhere you go you'll find regional dishes that are fresh and flavoursome. In some of the smaller towns and rural regions you'll find a lot of wholesome, traditional Spanish food while in some of the bigger cities you'll find more modern restaurants that put contemporary twists on some of the country's most famous dishes. Some of the foods that you absolutely must try are the roast suckling pigs in Segovia, gazpacho with fresh bread in Andalucía, and a delicious almond treat call turrón from the town of Jijona in the province of Alicante.

The history
Spain has a fascinating history that you can find evidence of almost anywhere. Around the country you'll find ruins, museums, archaeological sites and preserved buildings with incredible architecture. Find the remains of the old Roman city of Baelo Claudia in Andalusia, discover the ruins of the Spanish civil war in Belchite, and see the unfinished church of La Sagrada Familia in Barecelona, one of the architectural marvels of the world

The natural scenery
As well as bustling cities and beautiful beaches, Spain has a lot of places of stunning, natural beauty. In the Pyrenees, just on the border between Spain and France is the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park where you will find some amazing natural features. Glacial canyons, waterfalls, mountain streams, cliffs, limestone massifs and deep chasms can all be visited on foot if you have a sturdy pair of walking boots and a fair amount of stamina. In fact, there are quite a few national parks in Spain that contain some of the most incredible and diverse scenery you will see in your life. Other gorgeous sites include Las Médulas, an ancient gold mining site consisting of kilometres of golden rocky hills and greenery, and the Irati forest which is almost mystical in its beauty.

The celebrations
The Spanish know how to have fun and host some of Europe's most notorious and adored festivals. Head to Tenerife or Sitges for Carnival and dance through the night, or go to Seville for the April fair for a week of food, wine and fun. If you're interested in seeing some of the stranger sides of Spanish festivals then visit the town of Buñol in Valencia at the end of August to join in on a town-wide tomato fight, or join in on wine drinking competitions and a massive wine fight in the town of Haro in June. For iconic festivals and celebrations, look no further than Spain!
