Arriving to Palma

Palma is an island; so, to get into it, there are only two possible ways: by airplane or by ferry or boat. There are many companies that offer these kinds of transportation services.

By Airplane:

It is the fastest way. Mallorca's airport is called Son Sant Joan and it is located only 11 km from the centre of the city. It is an international airplane and it receives hundreds of tourists every day; most of them come from England, France, German and other Spanish cities. It is one of the busiest airports of Spain; it receives more than 22 million visitors per year, and most of them come during the summer.

It has very modern and comfortable facilities. It also has several services for the travelers as money exchange, taxis, banks, restaurants, cafes, shops, hotels etc. There are bus stops outside the airport. These buses can connect you with the bus and train stations.

By Ferry or Boat:

It does not go as fast as a plane, but it is still pleasant to travel on it since you have the opportunity to appreciate beautiful landscapes. The ferries/boats that get to the harbor of Palma de Mallorca usually come from cities like Barcelona, Valencia, Ibiza or Denia. People can transport vehicles or animals when traveling by ferry.

The length of time that it will take you to arrive to Palma will depend on where you are coming from. It takes seven hours if you come from Barcelona or Valencia. It takes five hours if you come from Denia, and only two hours if you come from Ibiza. Costs may vary from company to company. Nowadays, the ferries are very comfortable to travel in, and they offer several services to passengers during the length of their trip.

There are no other ways to get into Palma. There are no bridges; so, you cannot enter by bus or by car. If you need a car while you are there, there are two options: you can take your car to the city or you can rent one. Consider the length of time that you plan to stay in Palma before you decide what to do. If you are going to be there for a short period of time, rent a car; if you are going to stay for a long time, it is better to take the car with you.
