Tesoro del Dauphin & Casón del Buen Retiro

The Prado Museum is one of the favorite spots in Spain because it has many interesting constructions and relics. As an example, we can mention the Cason del Buen retiro and the Tesoros del Dauphin.

The Casón del Buen Retiro is a magnificent ancient building built during the reign of the first Bourbon king Felipe V. This spectacular construction used to be a special dance hall, but now it's considered a Spanish master piece of the nineteenth century. Inside the palace, visitors can find several outstanding paintings from the XIX century made by Luca Giordano; the paintings were a live tribute to the great Spanish monarchy at that time. Giordano was the official painter for the court during ten years (1792-1802).

The Cason del Buen Retiro had a big and beautiful garden with sculptures and pavilions. The construction of this splendid palace began in 1637 by the architect Alonso Carbonell. However the work was finished by José Del Olmo in the last part of the 17th century. Two centuries later, the building was modified into another architectonic style and nationalized by the revolutionary government as the National Museum of Artistic Reproductions (Museo Nacional de Reproducciones Artísticas) in 1868.

Inside the Prado Museum, visitors can find as well a marvelous collection of Dutch artwork, spectacular sculptures and the well-preserved Treasures of the Dauphin (Tesoros del Dauphin). There are valuable pieces such as rubies, esmeralds, porcelain artwork, glasses, trays, globets and much more.

The Prado museum is easy to find. In fact the best way to get there is by taking the Metro (subway) to the Banco de España. The museum is near the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Reina Sofía Museum.
