The Ramblas & Old Town

The Ramblas are wide streets with trees. These streets are only available to pedestrians. The Ramblas is located in Ciutat Vella which means Old Town in Catalan and holds two of the most popular neighborhoods in Barcelona: The Raval and Gothic Quarter.

The Ramblas is famous for being a big commercial street where anyone can find a diversity of stores, cafés, restaurants, flea markets, street artists and newspaper stands, flower shops and bird stores. It is a beautiful street to take a walk even if you don’t have any intentions of buying something.

Some of memorable places in The Ramblas are the Gran Teatre del Liceu (which in English means Lyceum Opera Theatre), the Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria or just The Boqueria, the Palau de la Virreina and the Font de Canaletes, which is a fountain that according to a popular legend, anyone that drinks from its water will inevitably return to Barcelona.
